BRIAN LEE, Staff Coach Boys 2006 

In this COACHES SPOTLIGHT we interview a coach from our Timbers side, Brian Lee.  Brian is a Graduate of Oklahoma Wesleyan where he received his BS in Biology.  He went on to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University.   Brian has earned his US Soccer National "C" License.  Brian Coaches in our 2006 Timbers Pool and with IYSA ODP.

WHAT IS YOUR COACHING PHILOSOPHY?

Affirm, confirm belief and lift up each player I coach at every opportunity while at the same time helping them to develop a sense of responsibility, accountability, and ownership to their training, to their teammates, to the game and to their life outside of sports. 

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS YOUR COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

Getting to be a positive part (hopefully) of numerous youth soccer players' journeys and witnessing their growth with the game and life is my biggest coaching accomplishment. I feel so unbelievably privileged to be a part of the youth soccer world. 

WHAT IMPACT DO YOU WANT TO MAKE FOR YOUR TEAM AND THE CLUB?

Same as always: Make sure that every kid I coach knows that they matter, that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to, that they are greatly cared for, and that they end up loving the game for a lifetime.

LEE WEATHERLY, THORNS 2003 

In this COACHES SPOTLIGHT we interview a coach from our Thorns side, LEE WEATHERLY.  Lee is a Graduate of Clemson University (GO TIGERS!!) with a BS in Graphic Communications.  Lee earned his US Soccer National "C" License as well as his National Youth License.  Lee Coaches in our 2003 Thorns Pool and with IYSA ODP.

WHAT IS YOUR COACHING PHILOSOPHY?

I strive to create a positive learning environment for each player to gain competitiveness and belief in themselves, while maintaining discipline and increasing their passion for the game. I guide players to increase self-confidence and self-awareness through communication, critical thinking, discovery and experimentation. As a mentor and coach, I also have a responsibility to each player, and myself, to strive for continual improvement while conducting myself in a manner that respects the game. I develop the person first and then the player, providing on and off the field life learning.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS YOUR COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

Credit for accomplishments all go to the players that overcame adversity, challenged and supported each other every day to reach semis and finals of tournaments or leagues. Win or lose, to learn and gain confidence on and off the field from hard work and commitment to each other. I feel accomplishments go beyond a medal and trophies list.

WHAT IMPACT DO YOU WANT TO MAKE FOR YOUR TEAM AND THE CLUB?

My objective for this year is to empower players to be more independent thinkers in problem solving. For each player to challenge themselves to believe and compete each day at a higher level while supporting teammates.
